About EdFutures

EdFutures is dedicated to helping change our current education system to make it fit for the 21st century. Our initial focus is on the role(s) that technology might play as a lever for change (or trojan mouse).

This is a wiki - so everything is 'under development'. Feel free to join the EdFutures community and help us improve the wiki (and ultimately our education systems).

Levers for change (?)

We are carrying out research exploring issues to do with a range of models of technology provision and related strategies in schools. We think of these as being levers for change. They include:

Community members are writing up their case studies and we will be exploring the data they have collected to identify emerging trends and develop 'strategic advice'.

Innovative 'schools'

We are starting to build a list of schools that are doing innovative things pedagogically - if you know of one then add it to the list or let PeterT know about it.

Technology Enhanced Summative Testing (TEST)

Paper-based high stakes assessment (such as GCSEs and A levels in England) are the major barrier to change in

curriculum and pedagogy in schools. Moving to on-screen exams would remove that blockage. Our aim is that the majority of GCSEs and A Level exams will take place on-screen by 2020. Find out more ...

New Purposes - New Practices - New Pedagogy (NP3)

This Society for Educational Studies (SES) funded research has lots to say about children's use of ICT outside school and how ICT is used inside schools (as well as about pedagogy more generally). There is information for parents, teachers, school leaders, policy makers and researchers - all easily accessible from the NP3 main page. You can also download the executive summary and full report - both of which contain key findings and recommendations.

The Schome Initiative

EdFutures complements the Schome Initiative, which starts from the premise that to achieve the optimal education system for the 21st century you need to start with a clean sheet because the existing education system is too resilient and self-sustaining. Much of the content within the Schome wiki is directly relevant to EdFutures. Here are some of the most relevant links:

The Digital Sonic Landscapes of Learning

We know that many learners listen to music whilst they study. However, we don't know enough about what they listen to, why they listen to it and what impact it has on their learning? This project sets out to explore those issues, with a particular focus on secondary school students. Find out more ...

PeterT's bliki

This is where PeterT blogs about stuff that interests him, which is generally about things to do with education and digital technology.
Read PeterT's bliki or (better still) join the discussions.

Your Own Technology Survey (YOTS)

x

YOTS has been mothballed - if you would like to take it over and revive it then contact User:PeterT

YOTS is a tool to help schools find out about the internet enabled mobile devices that their pupils have at home, and whether they would be allowed (by their parents), willing, and able to bring them in to school on a regular basis.
