About EdFutures

EdFutures is dedicated to helping change our current education system to make it fit for the 21st century. Our initial focus is on the role(s) that technology might play as a lever for change (or trojan mouse).

This is a wiki - so everything is 'under development'. Feel free to join the EdFutures community and help us improve the wiki (and ultimately our education systems).

Levers for change (?)

We are carrying out research exploring issues to do with a range of models of technology provision and related strategies in schools. We think of these as being levers for change. They include:

• 1:1 computing
• Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)
• Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT)
• Digital Leaders
• Cloud computing
• Flipped classrooms

Community members are writing up their case studies and we will be exploring the data they have collected to identify emerging trends and develop 'strategic advice'.

Your Own Technology Survey (YOTS)

Do you know what technology your pupils have access to at home? Do they have internet enabled mobile devices? Would they be willing, able and allowed to bring them into school every day?

If you are thinking about BYOD or BYOT then these are questions you need to know the answer to.
The Your Own Technology Survey (YOTS) is a tool to help schools and researchers better understand the technology available to students, and how that technology might be utilized to enhance educational outcomes.

The Schome Initiative

EdFutures complements the Schome Initiative, which starts from the premise that to achieve the optimal education system for the 21st century you need to start with a clean sheet because the existing education system is too resilient and self-sustaining. Vital

EdFutures.net spun off from the DfE funded Vital programme. Vital is now run by Jisc, whilst Peter Twining continues to lead on EdFutures.net.
