My name is Mair (a Welsh name most easily approximated by My-a by non-native speakers).
I started my PhD with the Open University on 1st October, 2012. My thesis title is 'Technology-assisted Learning for Ancient Languages'.
I have come here from Manchester University where I did an MA in Classics and Ancient History so I want to do some catching up with Education theory. However, I do have many years experience of teaching, both in the FE sector and privately, both face to face and online via Skype and other teaching platforms. I have mostly taught Mathematics but for the past five years I have been teaching Latin and Ancient Greek as an online private tutor. I have also worked in Information Management and IT - I took early retirement from the post of eGovernment and Technologies Manager for Chester City Council in 2008 and returned to education, completing a BA in Humanities and Classical Studies with the Open University.
I am passionately interested in the use of technology to improve education in all sectors, though my PhD will focus on accelerated learning environments in universities.
I have a Classics Blog / Website here: My Classics Pages
I am also intending to blog about my time with the Open University so watch this space for a new link :-)
